前回の記事で英雄ペルセウスについて取り上げてみた。
英雄ペルセウスと言えば、あの怪物を倒したことで有名だ。
あの怪物とは。。。
ずばり、メデゥーサである。
髪の毛が蛇の怪物で、その目を見たら石化してしまうと言われている。
メデゥーサをどうやって倒したのか、
などなど、ペルセウスについてさらに英語で学んでみよう。
ペルセウスとは？
ペルセウスの冒険の始まり：メデゥーサ編
Perseus had the help of his half-brothers, Hermes and Athena.
（ペルセウスは半神半人：デミゴッドである）
Athena offered him her shield.
（アテナの盾とは、ゲームに出てきそうだ。）
Hermes worked as his guide.
（ヘルメスによって導かれた）
Perseus received winged sandals from the nymph, the helmet of Hades which gave him the power of invisibility, and one special bag where he would have to keep the head of Medusa.

「nymph」精霊
「the helmet of Hades」ハデスの兜（姿を消すことができる）
Hermes gave him a divine sword, made by Haephastus.
（ヘパイストスは神々の武器を作る１２神のうちの１柱）
He used the reflection of the shield on which Perseus could see Medusa and won.
（鏡を使うことで直接姿を見ないで戦った）
From the creature’s blood, the winged horse, Pegasus was born.
（メデゥーサの血からペガサスが生まれた）
冒険の帰り道：アトラスとの出会い
Perseus rested at the place called the garden of Asperities, where Titan Atlas received the punishment to hold up the sky.
（ゼウス軍に敗れた際にアトラスは、天空を支える罰を受けていた）
Atlas didn’t welcome him, so Perseus become furious and showed him the head of Medusa.
Atlas was petrified.
「petrify」石化する
さらに寄り道：アンドロメダ姫との出会い
In Ethiopia, Andromeda was chained to the rock nearby the sea as a sacrifice to the sea creature, Seto.
（怪物セトからアンドロメダを救い出すペルセウス）
Perseus fell in love with her.
「fall in love」恋に落ちる
He defeated the monster.
They got married.
帰還：予言は実現に
Perseus’s mother was abused by the king.
Perseus and his army defeated the king.
ここからいろいろありながら、最終的には、、、
He accidentally killed his grand-father in the disc-throwing contest.
（最後には、円盤投げコンテストで祖父（アルゴス国王）を殺してしまった）
