子供のころにゲームをねだって親に買ってもらったことがある。
買ってもらったゲームのラベルには
ギリシア神話に出てきそうな怪物の絵が描いてあった。
ボクはその絵に惹かれてどうしてもほしくなった。
大人になってその時のゲームの値段を考えると
その当時の母親の気持ちが分かるが。。。
とにかくギリシア神話の怪物やモンスターと言うのは
いろんなゲームや漫画のネタでも使われており
人間を引き付ける力を持っている。
今日のテーマはギリシャ神話の怪物を通して
英語を学んでいこう。
まずは動画を見て、
その後で英語をまとめてスピーキングの練習をしよう。

まずは動画から。
それでは動画の中に出てくる怪物たちを英語で
まとめてみよう。
10位：Sphinx

答えは「Mankind」
エジプトにいるイメージだけどもともとはギリシャ神話。
9位：Satyrs（セイターみたいな発音）
サチュロス
These man beasts are companions of the god of wine, Dionysus.
Depicted in human form but wit horse tail and ears.
悪魔の原型みたいな感じか。
8位：Chimera（カイメラと発音）
キメラ：複数の接合体に由来する生物
A hybrid creature : Body and head of a lion with a second goat head and a snake’s tail making up the rest.
ドラクエでいう「キメラ」も混合種みたいなモンスターだ。
7位：Medusa（メデューサと発音）
メデューサ
Medusa is a race called the Gorgons who are snake headed sorceresses with the power to turn man to stone with a single gaze.
Defeated by Perseus.
6位：Cerberus（サバラスみたいな発音）
ケルベロス
Cerberus is a triple headed guard dog.
A gatekeeper of Hades.
地獄の番犬ケルベロス。
5位：Centaurs（セントーみたいな発音）
ケンタウロス
Centaurs have the lower half of a horse and a human upper body.
4位：Minotaur（マイノトーみたいな発音）
ミノタウロス
Minotaur has the head of a bull.
Minotaur was held in labyrinth in the kingdom of Crete.
3位：Cyclopes（サイクロープスみたいな発音）
一つ目の巨人
These giants are well-known for excellent building and crafting skills.
2位：Pegasus
ペガサス
Birthed from the blood of the slain Medusa.
A winged horse.
1位：Hydra（ハイドラと発音）
ヒドラ
A multi-headed water serpent that protected what was said to be a gateway to the underworld.
