Examiner: Let’s talk about your hometown. Where is it located?
Candidate: My hometown is Osaka, a lively city in Japan known for its delicious food, like takoyaki and okonomiyaki. It’s located in the Kansai region and has a mix of modern and traditional vibes.
Examiner: What do you like the most about your hometown?
Candidate: I love the energy and friendliness of the people. Osaka is also full of historical landmarks and modern attractions, so there’s always something interesting to explore.
Examiner: Would you recommend it to tourists? Why?
Candidate: Absolutely! The food scene is incredible, and places like Osaka Castle and Universal Studios Japan make it a great destination for both history buffs and thrill-seekers.
Examiner: Describe a memorable trip you’ve taken. You should say:
where you went
who you went with
what you did there
and explain why it was memorable.
Candidate:
One of my most memorable trips was to Kyoto, which is not far from my hometown. I went there with my family during the cherry blossom season. We visited Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion, and took a walk along the Philosopher’s Path, which was lined with blooming sakura trees. We also enjoyed a traditional kaiseki meal, which was an incredible experience for all of us.
What made this trip so memorable was the serene beauty of the cherry blossoms combined with the rich cultural atmosphere. It felt like stepping into a postcard, and spending quality time with my family made it even more special.
Examiner: Why do you think people enjoy traveling?
Candidate: I think people enjoy traveling because it offers an escape from their daily routines and allows them to experience new cultures, food, and landscapes. It also broadens their perspective and can be a way to create lasting memories with loved ones.
Examiner: How has travel changed compared to the past?
Candidate: Travel has become much more accessible and convenient thanks to technology. In the past, people relied on travel agents and physical maps, but now we have apps for everything, from booking tickets to finding restaurants. Additionally, air travel is more affordable, making international trips possible for many.
Examiner: Do you think tourism has positive or negative impacts on local communities?
Candidate: It’s a bit of both. Tourism brings economic benefits, such as jobs and income, to local communities. However, it can also lead to problems like overcrowding, environmental damage, and the loss of cultural authenticity. Striking a balance is key to ensuring sustainable tourism.
