鋼の錬金術師とは？
『鋼の錬金術師』（はがねのれんきんじゅつし）は、荒川弘（あらかわひろむ）による日本の漫画作品です。物語は、エドワード・エルリックとアルフォンス・エルリックという兄弟が、失われた肉体を取り戻すために「賢者の石」を探す旅を描いています。彼らは幼い頃に禁断の錬金術である「人体錬成」を行い、その結果、エドワードは左脚を失い、アルフォンスは全身を失ってしまいました。エドワードは弟を救うために右腕を犠牲にし、アルフォンスの魂を鎧に定着させます。
エドワードは国家錬金術師（国家錬金術師）として軍に入り、「鋼の錬金術師」の称号を得ます。彼は軍の陰謀や「ホムンクルス」と呼ばれる人工生命体の存在に気づき、次第に国家の秘密に迫っていきます。
この作品は、錬金術（れんきんじゅつ）という科学と魔法が融合したような技術をテーマにしており、アクション、哲学、政治、倫理などの要素が含まれています。特に、「等価交換の法則」（とうかこうかんのほうそく）という概念が重要で、「何かを得るためには、それと同等の代価を支払わなければならない」という考えが物語の根幹にあります。
この作品は漫画だけでなく、アニメ化もされており、2003年版と2009年版（鋼の錬金術師 FULLMETAL ALCHEMIST）の二つのアニメシリーズがあります。2009年版は原作に忠実に作られています。
Fullmetal Alchemist (鋼の錬金術師, Hagane no Renkinjutsushi) is a Japanese manga series written by Hiromu Arakawa. The story follows two brothers, Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric, on their journey to find the Philosopher’s Stone in order to restore their lost bodies. When they were young, they attempted the forbidden practice of human transmutation, which resulted in Edward losing his left leg and Alphonse losing his entire body. To save his brother, Edward sacrificed his right arm to bind Alphonse’s soul to a suit of armor.
Edward becomes a State Alchemist and is given the title “Fullmetal Alchemist.” As they search for the Philosopher’s Stone, they uncover the dark secrets of the military and the existence of artificial beings called “Homunculi.”
The series is centered around alchemy, a science-like magical technique, and explores themes of action, philosophy, politics, and ethics. A key concept in the story is the Law of Equivalent Exchange, which states, “To obtain something, something of equal value must be lost.”
Fullmetal Alchemist has been adapted into two anime series: the 2003 version, which diverges from the manga’s story, and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood (2009), which follows the original manga closely.
エドワード・エルリック

Alchemist, a title given to him as a State Alchemist. Edward lost his left leg and right arm when he and his brother Alphonse attempted human transmutation, a forbidden alchemy technique. To save Alphonse, he sacrificed his right arm to bind his brother’s soul to a suit of armor. He wears automail, a mechanical prosthetic, to replace his lost limbs. Despite his short stature, Edward is highly intelligent, skilled in alchemy, and determined to restore his brother’s body. He is known for his strong sense of justice, quick temper, and dislike of being called short.
アルフォンス・エルリック
アルフォンス・エルリックは、エドワードの弟です。人体錬成の失敗により、アルフォンスは肉体を完全に失い、魂が鎧に定着されました。そのため、見た目はエドワードよりもはるかに大きいですが、実際は年下です。エドワードとは対照的に、アルフォンスは冷静で優しく、思いやりのある性格を持っています。肉体がなくても格闘技や錬金術に長けており、エドワードの精神的な支えとなることが多いです。彼の最大の目標は、自分の元の身体を取り戻し、兄と共に錬金術の真実を追い求めることです。
Alphonse Elric is Edward’s younger brother. During their failed human transmutation, Alphonse lost his entire body, and his soul was attached to a suit of armor by Edward. Because of this, Alphonse is physically much larger than Edward, even though he is younger. Unlike Edward, Alphonse is calm, gentle, and kind-hearted, often acting as his brother’s emotional anchor. Despite lacking a physical body, he is still a skilled fighter and alchemist. His main goal is to regain his original body and help his brother find the truth behind alchemy.
ロイ・マスタング
ロイ・マスタングは、「焔の錬金術師」として知られる国家錬金術師です。彼はアメストリス軍の高官であり、特殊な手袋を使って指を鳴らすだけで炎を操る錬金術を駆使します。マスタングはカリスマ性があり、野心的で頭脳明晰で、アメストリスの次期指導者になることを目指しています。しかし、過去にイシュヴァール戦争での行動に苦しむ一面もあり、特にリザ・ホークアイをはじめとする部下たちに対して強い忠誠心を持っています。彼は国家の秘密や賢者の石の真実を追い求める重要な役割を担っています。
Roy Mustang is a State Alchemist known as the Flame Alchemist. He is a high-ranking officer in the Amestrian military and a skilled alchemist who uses flame-based alchemy by snapping his fingers, thanks to his special gloves. Mustang is charismatic, ambitious, and highly intelligent, aiming to become the next leader of Amestris. However, he is haunted by his past actions during the Ishvalan War, and he is deeply loyal to his subordinates, especially Riza Hawkeye. He plays a major role in uncovering the truth about the government and the Philosopher’s Stone.
リザ・ホークアイ

She has a tragic past connected to Mustang’s flame alchemy, and she is deeply devoted to ensuring that Mustang fulfills his goal of changing Amestris for the better.
アレックス・ルイ・アームストロング

Alex Louis Armstrong, also known as the Strong Arm Alchemist, is a State Alchemist who uses physical strength and alchemy together. He is a towering, muscular man with a dramatic personality. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is kind-hearted, emotional, and extremely loyal to his friends. He often boasts about his family’s proud lineage and expresses emotions in an exaggerated way.
ホムンクルス
ホムンクルスは、賢者の石を使って作られた人工生命体です。それぞれのホムンクルスは、七つの大罪（ラスト・エンヴィー・グリード・グラトニー・スロウス・ラース・プライド）の名前を持っています。彼らは超人的な能力を持ち、再生能力が高いためほぼ不死身です。ホムンクルスは、謎の存在「お父様」に仕え、物語の重要な敵として登場します。
The Homunculi are artificial humans created using the Philosopher’s Stone. Each Homunculus is named after one of the Seven Deadly Sins (Lust, Envy, Greed, Gluttony, Sloth, Wrath, Pride). They have superhuman abilities and are nearly immortal due to their regeneration powers. The Homunculi serve their mysterious master, “Father,” and play a major role in the story’s conflicts.
