avid (adjective) – 熱心な、熱中している
Mnemonic: Think of “Avid = Always Very Interested and Devoted.”
Association: Imagine someone staying up all night reading because they’re an avid reader.
Example:
He’s an avid soccer fan who never misses a match.
→ 彼は試合を決して見逃さない熱心なサッカーファンだ。
adroit (adjective) – 巧みな、器用な
Mnemonic: “Adroit = A Droid” – Imagine a robot that is very skillful with its hands.
Association: Picture a person juggling while riding a unicycle – truly adroit!
Example:
She’s adroit at solving difficult puzzles.
→ 彼女は難しいパズルを解くのが巧みだ。
adept (adjective) – 熟練した、上手な
Mnemonic: Think “Adept = Adapt” – Someone adept can quickly adapt to any situation.
Association: Picture a martial artist easily dodging every attack – that’s being adept.
Example:

→ 彼はコンピュータを修理するのがとても上手だ。
abridged (adjective) – 要約された、短縮された
Mnemonic: “Bridge the gap” – An abridged version bridges the gap by cutting out extra details.
Association: Picture a book being magically shrunk to pocket size – that’s an abridged version.
Example:
I read the abridged version of “War and Peace.”
→ 「戦争と平和」の要約版を読んだ。
blissful (adjective) – 至福の
Mnemonic: Think of “Bliss = Blessed” – Feeling blessed and happy = blissful.

Mnemonic: “De + crepit” – Sounds like “decrease + creep” – an old building is slowly decreasing in strength.

obsolete (adjective) – 時代遅れの、廃れた
Mnemonic: “Obsolete = Obstacle + Late” – When something becomes too late to be useful.
Association: Picture an old rotary phone sitting next to a smartphone – totally obsolete.
Example:
VHS tapes have become obsolete.
→ VHSテープは時代遅れになった。
succinct (adjective) – 簡潔な
Mnemonic: “Succinct = Success + Ink” – If you use less ink (fewer words), you succeed in being clear.
Association: Picture a speech that gets straight to the point – that’s succinct.
Example:
Her explanation was clear and succinct.
→ 彼女の説明は明確で簡潔だった。
stale (adjective) – 新鮮でない、陳腐な
Mnemonic: “Stale = Still” – Something that’s been still too long becomes stale.
Association: Picture a loaf of bread left out for days – it’s dry and stale.
Example:
The bread was stale after being left out overnight.

vigorous (adjective) – 活発な、力強い
Mnemonic: “Vigorous = Vital + Energy” – Full of energy and strength.
Association: Picture a runner sprinting across the finish line with power – that’s vigorous.

👉 「あ、ルーフ (roof) の上にいる人」 → みんなと一緒にいないで、孤立しているイメージ。
連想: ルーフの上に1人で立っている人を想像すると、「他人と距離を取っている」「冷淡な」感じが思い浮かぶ。

👉 「バウント（bount）」＝ボーナス、豊かさ → 豊富で満ちているイメージ。
連想: 秋の収穫で果物や野菜があふれているシーンを想像。
belligerent (adjective) – 好戦的な
👉 「ベル（bell）」が鳴るとすぐに戦う人 → すぐにけんか腰になるイメージ。
連想: ボクシングのゴングが鳴るとすぐに殴りかかる選手を思い浮かべる。

👉 「ブラン（blunt）」= 鈍い → 鈍くてストレートな表現。

👉 「カット（curt）」＝短く切る → 短く、冷たい言い方をイメージ。
連想: 「うん」「わかった」と冷たく答える場面を想像。

👉 「プロ（pro）」+「ピシャス（picious）」＝前向きな雰囲気 → 未来が良さそうなイメージ。
連想: 初日の出や虹を見て、良いことが起きそうな感じを思い浮かべる。
receptive (adjective) – 受け入れやすい
👉 「レセプション（reception）」＝迎え入れる → 柔軟に受け止めるイメージ。
連想: 意見やアドバイスを素直に受け入れている場面を想像。
sinister (adjective) – 不吉な、邪悪な
👉 「シン（sin）」＝罪 +「スター（ster）」 → 邪悪なスターのイメージ。
連想: 怪しい人物が不気味に笑っている場面を思い浮かべる。
wolf down – をがつがつ食べる
「狼（wolf）が獲物を食べる様子」**を思い浮かべると覚えやすいです。狼が空腹のあまり、肉を一気にがつがつと食べている様子を想像してください。
whip up – をかきたてる
「泡立て器（whip）でかき混ぜる様子」**を思い浮かべてください。ホイップクリームを素早く泡立てるように、人々の感情や関心を刺激して「かきたてる」イメージです。
whisk away – をさっと取り除く
「泡立て器（whisk）でサッとすくい取る動き」**を思い浮かべてください。泡立て器で泡をサッと取り除くように、物や人を素早く移動させる、取り除くイメージです。
