ドラクエ３に出てくるモンスターを英語で見てみよう。
いっかくうさぎ：Horned Rabbit
うごくせきぞう：Stone Hulk
だいまじん：Granite Titan
キメラ：Wyvern
ゴールドマン：Gold Basher
さまようよろい：Rogue Knight
キラーアーマー：Lethal Armor
地獄のよろい：Infernus Knight
ばくだん岩：Bomb Crag
ホイミスライム：Healer
ベホマスライム：Curer
人食い箱：Man-Eater Chest
バラモス：Baramos
ゾーマ：Zoma
それじゃあ、ここからは、ドラクエ１１の世界に戻ってみよう。
ドラクエ１１の世界
村の東を目指した二人の先には。。。
街は王様の命令で破壊されていた。
岩の下を掘るとそこから箱が見つかる。
箱を開けてみると中には手紙が入っていた。
手紙：My dearest darling baby boy, when finally you come to read this, I’ll almost certainly be long-dead.
Pesoo: 「long-dead」というのは、「ずっと前に亡くなった」という意味か。
手紙：Not long after you were born, our beloved kingdom of Dundrail was attacked by an army of monsters.
Pesoo: 「Kingdom of Dundrail」とはどこだろう。
手紙：I was forced to flee with you in my arms, and expended the last of my strength in ensuring that you escaped to safety.
Pesoo: 「flee」は「逃げる」の意味で、「expend」は「使い果たす」の意味か。
手紙：If you are fortunate enough to have been found by some kindly soul, you must seek out the king of Helidor when you come of age.
Pesoo: 「kindly soul」で「親切な人」で、「seek out」は「探し出す」か。
手紙：Our kingdom and his have long enjoyed close relations, and your father and I would trust him with our lives.
Pesoo: 「trust someone with one’s life」で「～を信じて命をあずける」という意味か。
手紙：Never forget, my son- you are the Lumminary. Yours is a weighty burden indeed.
Pesoo: 「weighty」で「重苦しい」という意味か。
手紙：It is you who must stand against the darkness and banish it from our world.
Pesoo: 「stand against」で「～に立ち向かう」で、「banish」が「払いのける」か。
手紙：In time, you will come to understand.
Pesoo: 「in time」で「そのうち」という意味か。
手紙：It breaks my heart to leave you, my darling, but it is the only way.
Pesoo: 「break one’s heart」で「心がいたい」か。
手紙：I only hope that one day, you will learn to forgive me.
Pesoo: なるほど。なんとなく物語の始まりがつかめたような。。。

今回は、主人公の過去について手紙の中から
考察することができた。
手紙は長いので、今回の記事ではリーディング練習をする感じで読んだらいいかも。
