「上杉謙信: Uesugi Kenshin」
Uesugi Kenshin was a daimyō who was born as Nagao Kagetora of the Nagao clan, and after adoption into the Uesugi clan, ruled Echigo Province in the Sengoku period of Japan. He was one of the most powerful daimyō of the Sengoku period. Known as the “Dragon of Echigo”, while chiefly remembered for his prowess on the battlefield as a military genius.
Kenshin is famed for his honourable conduct, his military expertise, a long-standing rivalry with Takeda Shingen, his numerous defensive campaigns to restore order in the Kantō region as the Kanto Kanrei, and his belief in the Buddhist god of war—Bishamonten. Many of his followers and others believed him to be the Avatar of Bishamonten, and called Kenshin the “God of War”.

会話調だと記憶にも残りやすく、さらにシャーロックホームズも楽しむことができる。

翌日の新聞各紙は『ブリクストン事件』と銘打ち、その話題で持ちきりだった。
どの新聞も事件に大きく紙面をさき、社説で触れるものさえあって、真新しい情報も二、三あった。
Holmes:”I told you that, whatever happened, Lestrade and Gregson would be sure to score.”
Holmes「見たまえ、どう転んでも、レストレードとグレグソンの手柄になるだろう。」
Watson:”That depends on how it turns out.”
Watson「事件のなりゆき次第さ。」
Holmes:”Oh, bless you, it doesn’t matter in the least. If the man is caught, it will be on account of their exertions; if he escapes, it will be in spite of their exertions. It’s heads I win and tails you lose. Whatever they do, they will have followers. ‘Un sot trouve toujours un plus sot qui l’admire.'”
Holmes「君もめでたいな、ありえんよ。犯人が捕まれば、両氏の捜査のおかげで逃しても、両氏の捜査のかいなく［＃「かいなく」に傍点］。僕が勝つか君が負けるか、というやつだ。やつらはやることなすことすべて支持される。『たわけは自分を見てくれる大たわけを呼ぶ』のだ。」
Watson:”What on earth is this?”
Watson「おや何事だ？」
I cried, for at this moment there came the pattering of many steps in the hall and on the stairs, accompanied by audible expressions of disgust upon the part of our landlady.
そのとき玄関を走り抜け、階段を駆け上がってくるいくつもの足音が聞こえたのだ。
Holmes: “It’s the Baker Street division of the detective police force,”

Holmes「気をつけ！これから報告はウィギンズ一人で来るように。残りは表で待っていること。ウィギンズ、何かわかったか？」
A child:”No, sir, we hain’t.”
A child「いいえ、先生。何も。」
Holmes:” I hardly expected you would. You must keep on until you do. Here are your wages. Now, off you go, and come back with a better report next time.”
Holmes「さもありなん。見つかるまで捜査続行。これが駄賃だ。」
Holmes:”There’s more work to be got out of one of those little beggars than out of a dozen of the force. The mere sight of an official-looking person seals men’s lips. These youngsters, however, go everywhere and hear everything. They are as sharp as needles, too; all they want is organization.”
Holmes「一人で、警察一〇人以上の成果が上がる。官憲の姿を見ただけで、人は口を閉ざしてしまう。だが子どもとなれば、どこへでも行け、何でも聞ける。鋭さは針のごとし。足りないのはまとまりだけだ。」
Watson:”Is it on this Brixton case that you are employing them?”
Watson「あの子たちが取り組んでいるのは、ブリクストン事件かね。」
Holmes:”Yes; there is a point which I wish to ascertain. It is merely a matter of time. Hullo! we are going to hear some news now with a vengeance! Here is Gregson coming down the road with beatitude written upon every feature of his face. Bound for us, I know. Yes, he is stopping. There he is!”
Holmes「ああ。突き止めたいことがある。もはや時間の問題だ。おや、どうも最新情報を得られそうだ。グレグソンが満面の笑みで、道を歩いてくる。目的地はここだな。うむ、家の前まで来た。」
呼び鈴が高く鳴りひびき、しばらくすると、金髪の刑事が階段を二段飛ばしに上がって、部屋に飛び込んできた。
